Tarot: The Fool

Carefree and Childlike, Authenticity, Inevitability

Remember back when you were a wee thing and you didn’t know how to walk, talk or feed yourself? You weren’t sure which way your arms were going to swing or which sounds would protrude from your vocal chords?

Those were the good ol’ days, weren’t they? As long as you had a caretaker, you didn’t have to worry about money, the in-laws and political elections. You could just be yourself, a baby.

This is the primary message of The Fool. The message is that the collective reality is out of your control. Whatever is going to happen, good or bad, is going to happen. And there isn’t much you can do about it.

So you might as well let go of perceptions of control and flow with the universe. This is the best way to make soul-inspired, authentic decisions anyway.

When The Fool Shows Up In A Reading

Health and Body Image: The Fool might be a sign you’re rushing toward your own destruction with the foods you eat and the kind of energies you put in your body. It could also be a sign that you need to lighten up on your diet and fitness routine. Listen to and act on your body’s needs. It knows best how to care for itself. If you’re inquiring about a particular health protocol, practitioner, or remedy, the answer is ‘yes’ but tiny steps, or initiatory experiences may be required.

Occupation and Finances: For success, you might need to go out on a few limbs. Sure, there will be risks. But you have permission to stop trying so hard, relax and allow your inspirations and higher insights to guide your work.

Relationships: A certain relationship probably isn’t the wisest decision you’ve made. One or more persons involved are likely ruled by foolish desires or maybe they tend to jump into situations without thinking. But then again, is there any other way to experience life and love?

Hidden Meaning: It’s from the quantum vacuum or “zero point” energy field that our energy, consciousness and knowledge is derived. We can reach it through “letting go” or deep relaxation. Zero Point is when your soul inspirations, intuitive insights or higher wisdom seems to “magically” appear.

Reversed: The zero principle of The Fool in reverse might indicate vanity or emptiness. There’s nothing here of substance. It could also refer to the absence of someone or something – neglect. Also, apathy. It might be a warning against insensitivity or carelessness. Or, The Fool reversed might encourage you to have a casual, nonchalant attitude toward something. Let go of fear-based control so you can put more heart into someone or something, and thereby get the results you want.

Advice: Sure, there’s a time to act with logic, awareness and wisdom from lessons learned, but now is not that time. Now is the time to relax, let go of perceptions of control, and allow a situation to unfold exactly as it does. Or wait for the truth to reveal itself in its own way. Practice flowing with what is rather than trying to force someone or something to go a certain way. Then watch everything work out just fine, in ways you didn’t expect.

Astrological Association: Earth

Timing: “Major Arcanas mean that no timeframe is specified but instead the issue indicated by the card must first be resolved. Reversals should be noted, as with this system they represent obstacles that must be overcome before the event can occur.” – Barbara Moore

Yes or No: A possibility, initiatory steps may first be required
